Authoritative Guidance SummaryEquipment hire proposals may originate from the contractor, the customer or an acquisition team member. Proposals for equipment hire must be assessed and a judgement made on whether hiring or outright purchase offers best value for money. The acquisition team, the customer, the equipment support manager and Defence Export Services Organisation (DESO), as appropriate, should be involved in the assessment. Contractors sometimes offer free equipment trials. Care must be taken to avoid misrepresentation if there is no 'in Service' requirement for the equipment. All Ministry of Defence (MOD) hiring activities create a contractual relationship that should be recorded in writing. Some points to consider when drafting a contract are provided under Authoritative Guidance. Further Reading
