Planning and Scheduling at the Project level

Planning and Scheduling (P&S) at a project level will be affected by its inclusion into or the introduction of a Programme.

How should Planning and Scheduling activities be carried out at the Project Level?

The Programme Support Function (PSF) may set strategies for some project activities which constrain when and how P&S activities occur. This will ensure a consistent approach is adopted throughout the programme.

The strategies covered may include:

  • Monitoring and Reporting
  • Communications
  • Assurance
  • Quality.

Each strategy may include guidance on the way that P&S information is managed:

  • Format and scope of information
  • Key anchor milestones
  • Defined tools
  • Consistent and coherent strategy to be deployed.

The PSF may also define a Change Control strategy.that ensure Project / DLoD and Programme P&S remains consistent and coherent at all levels

The change control strategy might include:

  • Establishing a mechanism for prioritising the potential changes.
  • Maintaining a central log of potential changes.
  • Carrying out impact assessments against the Programme Plan / Programme Business case etc.
  • Assessing the impact of the change on the risks to the Programme.
  • Assessing the impact of expected benefits to the Programme.
  • Re-evaluating the priority status.
  • The decision process for deciding which changes to accommodate.
  • Updating the issue log with decisions to maintain an audit trail.
  • Implementation of approved changes and the communication of the changes outcomes to those affected.

The Interface Management Strategy will define how cross project dependencies are managed.
