The Defence Equipment and Support Technology Overview

What is the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Technology Overview ?

The Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Technology Overview is a briefing submitted annually to the DE&S Board for endorsement and to the Defence Research and Development (R&D) Board to inform Research Goal setting.

The DE&S Technology Overview:

• Identifies opportunities for exploitation of technology across Operating Centres.
• Provides the means to co-ordinate research investment with exploitation opportunities.

Joint planning of research ensures maximum benefit is derived from available resource. As well as establishing DE&S technology priorities and critical dependencies the DE&S Technology Overview demonstrates the competence of DE&S to manage technology as an integral part of through life equipment delivery and support.

How is the DE&S Technology Overview used ?

It is used to:

• Enable sharing of technology and domain knowledge across Director Operating Centres.
• Identify duplication or gaps in technology development activity.
• Encourage coordination and synergy between Operating Centres for cross cutting technologies.
• Identify technology risks and dependencies between programmes.
• Directly support the research planning of the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Technology Programme Office.
• Ensure best effect is made of research funding to support DE&S projects and programmes.
• Provide the information for communicating technology needs to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and innovators.

How is the DE&S Technology Overview produced ?

The Programmes and Technology Group (PTG) is responsible for compiling the DE&S Technology Overview annually based on collation and analysis of technology plans, including Project technology plans and Director Operating Centre technology plans.
