Governing Policy (GP) 2.2 – ReliabilityPrefaceIn the context of GP 2.2 Reliability
ScopeRequirementJSP 886 states it is MOD policy that:
This Governing Policy (GP) outlines the activities required to ensure that the maximum availability of Defence equipment is realised. AvailabilityIn the context of this GP, availability is defined as being the availability of the equipment to the end user to perform as required over the defined operating period. To achieve high levels of availability, the equipment or service must have R&M designed in at the earliest stage. Reliability and MaintainabilityReliability and Maintainability (R&M) is a Systems Engineering discipline to manage and deliver the capability availability requirement. A guidance document Reliability Centred MaintenanceReliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) is a discipline used to optimise the maintenance solution. By following this activity, the maintenance burden can be reduced further in light of the condition of the system. RCM is required by Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) as the process to derive maintenance programmes for new capabilities managed under the principles of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and for retrospective application when reviewing the maintenance requirements of assets already in service. ApplicabilityThis GP is applicable to all project teams and applies to:

The adopted Support Solution is to provide specific evidence in order to achieve compliance with the needs of this GP. Variations from this evidence set may be possible and should be discussed with the Subject Matter Experts (SME) or the relevant Support Solutions Officer (SSO) at the earliest opportunity. Any risks associated with the above variance will be agreed with the Key Support Area (KSA) Owner’s representative and SSO for the project team to manage or mitigate. Change History
Change HistoryDue to the significant number of changes contained within the SSE Version 5 update, ‘Change History’ will only reflect those amendments, inclusions or deletions which follow the launch of the website on 1st November 2008. The SSE updated to Version 5.0.0 on 1st November 2008 following a full review of all documents and changes to a number of GPs. Individual document Change History pages will detail changes other than minor editorial amendments.
