Workstation Design

What is Workstation Design?

Workstation Design concerns determining the size, shape and layout of the working area taking into consideration the tasks undertaken and the physical characteristics of users.

What should Workstation Design produce?

Workstation Design should produce a document outlining the optimum arrangement for the workstation. It should include specifying the dimensions and the layout of space in accordance with the following needs:

  • Preserving functional groupings
  • Provide maintenance access
  • Enable user access and traffic flow
  • Optimise environmental factors.

It should also define the spatial requirements of displays, controls, working surfaces, storage and seating arrangements so that the user can perform all tasks effectively, efficiently, in comfort and without being exposed to health and safety risks.
