Human Factor Assurance

How are Human Factors Assured?

There are several ways in which the Human Factors aspects of a project or system can be Assured. Project Team’s can use whichever they feel is most suited to their project, and can use any or all of the options available.

The first is Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs). TRLs provide an indication of the technical maturity of a project. They indicate the extent to which the product has been designed, tested, and proven adequate for the application through practical use. They are used throughout the Acquisition Lifecycle, and are particularly suited to single products.

When not assessing single products, the MOD recommends System Readiness Levels (SRLs). These are more suited to assessing issues at the system level.

As part of complying with the Support Solutions Envelope (SSE), Project Teams can use the Human Factors Integration Plan as a way of assuring against Human Factors.
