The importance of MOD’s relationship with industry
An effective and efficient relationship with Industry is essential throughout acquisition as highlighted in the Defence Industrial Strategy (2005)
. The Director General Defence Commercial (DGDC) provides the framework for commercial operations across MOD.
The DGDC supports Acquisition by:
- Applying Portfolio Management to make sure decisions are:
- Fully informed by industry strategy and commercial relationships as well as cost (both equipment and support).
- Joined-up across MOD.
- Developing and maintaining effective strategic relations with industry that are:
- Focused, appropriately formed by scale and consistent at all levels.
- Applying standard Commercial Approaches that are:
- Open, robust, consistent and deliver through life capability at best long-term value for money.
- Applying a standard Procurement Process:
- A common framework for purchasing across MOD.
- Ensuring e-business capability to enable:
- Increased efficiency
- Closer and more flexible working with industry
- Evolving the Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS) to make sure it remains relevant to the changing business needs of MOD and Industry.

The AOF has been updated to Version 2.0.0 on 1st April 2008 following the introduction of the main content in the tactical layer. In addition small changes have been added to the Operational layer.
