Purpose and Role of Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S)
Mission
The mission of DE&S is:
‘To equip and support our Armed Forces for operations now and in the future.’
What is the Role of DE&S ?
To achieve its mission, DE&S carries out the following roles:
- Provide timely and reliable operational logistics and equipment support.
- Manage a portfolio of complex projects and associated support network, on the basis of accurate forecasts and a through-life approach.
- Manage the commercial interface with the defence industrial supply chain, end-to-end.
- Effective financial management.
- Introduction of new technology to aid innovation and reduce risk, through-life.
- Provide safety, environmental and technical assurance.
- Manage our people including identifying skills, staff development and retention, performance management and staff deployment.
DE&S is a key member of the MOD Unified Customer.
DE&S delivers equipment, services and support to the User funded by the Capability Sponsor.

The AOF has been updated to Version 2.0.0 on 1st April 2008 following the introduction of the main content in the tactical layer. In addition small changes have been added to the Operational layer.
